John Crash Matos

Born in 1961 in New York. Lives and works in New York.

Pioneer of the Aérosol (R)evolution, as Phase 2 called it, John Matos a.k.a. Crash, recovered New York subways since the age 13 years. He says about his works that it builds a "visual link between street life and established society" . Since the end of the 70’s, he transposes his work on canvas. He shows it in 1983 in Sidney Janis ‘s gallery in New York and since, he multiplies the exhibitions worldwide. He illustrated to a serie of guitars which one for Eric Clapton nicknamed « Crashocaster ». Moreover, he went into prestigious collections : The MOMA in New-York, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Groninger Museum, or the Stedelijk in Amsterdam.
