Tim Biskup
Tim Biskup
(b. Santa Monica,
CA. 1967- ) is a Southern California fine artist whose work has been shown
worldwide, including galleries and museums in Los Angeles,
New York, San Francisco,
Tokyo, Kyoto, Barcelona, Berlin and Melbourne.
Long
recognized for his complex color and design theories and a decidedly populist
aesthetic, Biskup has amassed a cadre of loyal fans and collectors. Recent
years have seen the artist tend towards more complex, personal and conceptual
work. With his latest solo exhibition "THE ARTIST IN YOU" (May-June,
2008, Jonathan Levine Gallery, NYC) he presented a body of work that revealed
the essence of his recent experiments and projects. Along with the visual art
Biskup included a book of intimate and provocative writings in which he
revealed his own process, discussed his theories and vented his frustrations,
anger and revelations about his work and about the art world in general.
In his new exhibition "O/S (Operating
System)" (Oct-Nov, 2008, Addict Gallerie, Paris) Biskup examines the systems that
humans use in an attempt to simplify, explain and navigate the complexities of
life. The title also suggests that the artist is embarking on a new era in his
career, testing out a new way of thinking about his work and questioning the
validity of his own systems. The show will include new paintings, sculptures
and prints.
