Thomas Fiebig
Born in 1968 in Leipzig.
Lives and works in Cologne.
Thomas Fiebig demonstrates both the influence of urban and of street art in his
paintings.
He is highly inspired by city landscapes where the
numerous interventions of anonymous artists remind him of a constant
destruction. According to him, the aesthetic conception counterbalances the
content in an ironic but productive way. Meticulous scribbles, messages in big
letters, children with powerful facial expressions,…everything comes down to an
absurd world vision.
Destruction as the basis of his elaborations, it is
also what best describes Fiebig’s
journey. To deconstruct, meaning to dismount the logic of forms, is a way to
regard reality through a fragmented perspective. This deformity is bound to
create something that is different and original. The harmony rises from a
paradox, should one know how to appreciate it. Through this perspective, Fiebig’s paintings are an insatiable
quest for the balance that can be established between two extremes.
But the chaos that emerges from his work is only
initially apparent. Everything is elaborated in great detail on his computer,
and then transcribed to the canvas via a lengthy process, leading to a
skilfully organised disorder.
